The 2006 Steve McQueen AuctionPhoto report by Brian MayfieldMajor McQueen fan Brian Mayfield attended the auction and sent in this report along with these great photos. |
Well it was quite a show and I wish all of you had been there, Steve must have had a smile on, he is still the draw he always was. We headed down Saturday and made good time, actually had time to look a bit before it started. Lots of Hollywood people and fans. No I didn't talk with Bo Derek but I was next to her as she talked with Barbara and they seemed to know one another, as did Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top). I bought the book and had it signed but something funny happened, the man ahead of me had some difficult name requests for Barbara so when I step up she says "well now there's a name I can spell" (Brian) and as both Marshall and I watch she spells Brain......She felt horrible but I said "please leave it as it will now be a story to go with the book." Here is the funny part, I work for a major Aerospace/Defense contractor (the largest) and they issued my Secret Clearances with my badge saying Brain as well. I walked around for quite some time laughing about being the brains of the operation.....Till one day I got yanked into the DOD Security and bingo new badge...So it was kinda funny for personal reasons. She wanted to make things right but I insisted on what I had, very nice lady. The auction was wild as prices went crazy, the on the phone bidding for the two top Indians was unreal (I overheard that Brad Pitt got it). Everything I bid on I was outbid on but it was still worth it. Today when the sign my friend won was picked up he said a lot of the items were still there waiting for people. He was told by a Petersen worker there was going to be another auction of more stuff down the road, but this could be a mis-statement who knows. We talked with quite a few people at the event and all in all it was a very cool event. Steve would have been happy - what he valued we valued. Brian. |
