During the month of August the BFI (British Film Institute) is celebrating the career of the ultimate Hollywood maverick, Steve McQueen,
by presenting 14 titles from the McQueen canon, in a festival season aptly titled Steve McQueen: Hollywood Nonconformist. The season will be kicked off on August 3rd with a lecture by festival curator Tony Earnshaw, in which he will present an objective reconsideration of the life of the star, told largely in McQueen's own words and with clips from several of his films. The 14 titles screened will include the iconic Bullitt, the McQueen-Edward G Robinson hit The Cincinnati Kid, the rarely seen An Enemy of the People, The Great Escape, The Sand Pebbles (for which McQueen recieved an Academy Award nomination for 'Best Actor in a Leading Role'), as well as: |
