Greenhorn Enduro - 1964

Bud Ekins and Steve at the GreenhornAfter completing filming on Love With The Proper Stranger, Steve entered the Greenhorn Enduro, a rigorous two day cross country motorcycle race held to the north of Los Angeles.

The 500 mile Enduro made it's way through the region's cold and dangerous mountains as well as the blistering heat of the Mojave desert.

Over 300 of America's best riders were competing in this challenge, and the percentage who would complete it was low.

On the second day of racing, in first position for his class and only 20 miles from the finish, Steve blew a cylinder in his bike.

He managed to finish the race on one cylinder, but lost his 'first in class' placing.
