My Husband, My Friend |
Penina Spiegel interviewed Neile McQueen Toffel (McQueen's first wife) for her bio The Untold Story of a Bad Boy in Hollywood,
which was released the same year as Toffel's own autobiography My Husband, My Friend.
Toffel presents her own, more personal story of life with Steve.

| Their bond was partly forged by similarly cruel childhoods. Wheras Steve survived in boys homes and on the streets, Toffel survived a Japanese prison camp in the Philippines during World War II. They were also both neglected by unstable mothers. Toffell became a successful dancer on Broadway before meeting and marrying Steve, and they had two children before their 16-year marriage ended in divorce. She tells of her life with Steve up until his death from cancer in 1980. | ||||
