The Cincinatti Kid coming to Blu-ray June 14, 2011

'The Cincinnati Kid' Blu-ray Warner Home Video has announced the High Definition Blu-ray release of the Norman Jewison directed poker classic The Cincinnati Kid for June 14, 2011.

The Blu ray will carry over all the same special features found on the previous DVD release, which include an excellent director's commentary, a scene-specific commentary on the poker scenes by Celebrity Poker Showdown hosts Dave Foley and Phil Gordon, a vintage promotional featurette in which the poker expert who taught the cast to handle cards like pro's gives supporting actress Joan Blondell some lessons, and lastly the theatrical trailer.

------------------------------ SPECIAL NOTE-----------------------------------

The Cincinnati Kid has been released in two different cuts over the years, with the director's preferred cut released on old VHS and Laser Disk editions, and commonly aired in past TV showings. The recent DVD release however only featured the second alternative cut, and it appears that the Blu-ray will also only feature the same cut as found on the DVD.

Both Mr Jewison and many fans consider the DVD version to be the inferior cut.

With the higher storage capacity of Blu-ray it would be easy to include both versions to satisfy both Mr Jewison and McQueen fans alike, and we implore Warner Bros. to consider this option for the Blu-ray release.

The picture quality on the DVD was fantastic and we are expecting an even more amazing PQ on the Blu-ray.

--------------------------- UPDATE - June 6, 2011--------------------------------

The reviews are out and this is a superb release. Unfortunately, the preferred Director's cut has NOT been included.
