| Barbara McQueen and Marshall Terrill ink deal with publisher. | |
Barbara McQueen, widow of actor Steve McQueen, has reached a publishing deal with Dalton Watson Fine Books for her
upcoming photo book, Steve McQueen: The Last Mile. The agreement was solidified on August 21, and is set for a November 2006 release. The release date coincides with the 26th anniversary of the actor’s death and also a McQueen auction of memorabilia hosted by Bonhams and Butterfields at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Barbara McQueen, who had a three-and-a-half year relationship with the former superstar, said she’s pleased her book is being published with Dalton Watson, an automotive publisher known for its dedication to quality. "I’m so happy and pleased that the photos I took of my time with Steve (1977 to 1980) will be shared with an appreciative public," Barbara McQueen said. "Steve and I had originally intended to publish a book using my photos and his words while he was alive, but it was shelved when he was diagnosed with cancer. I’m glad to present a beautiful tribute to a beautiful man." The former model and photographer turned to co-author Marshall Terrill, who wrote the definitive account of the actor in 1993’s Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel, to help tell her story. "It’s been a unique and fun experience for me to write this with Barbara McQueen because I had never spoken or interviewed her before," Terrill said. "I think Steve McQueen fans are going to be very satisfied with her beautiful pictures and funny and heartwarming stories. Obviously, Steve’s passion for motoring will be a large theme in the book." Terrill said the photo book is written in passage form, weaving Barbara McQueen’s personal history, her relationship with her famous husband and the stories behind the hundreds of candid pictures she took. "I believe both men and women will love this photo book because most accounts on McQueen have usually been from a man’s point of view," Terrill said. "This will be a very unique and behind-the-scene’s look at McQueen’s years out of the spotlight." Dalton Watson Fine Books plans on a special limited edition run of 2,000 books, which will be signed by Barbara McQueen and Marshall Terrill. The limited editions will also include a compact disc of McQueen going over his script notes as he prepares to film Tom Horn. Once the limited editions are sold out, the publisher plans to sell a mass market version of the book in 2007.
