	The Sand Pebbles has been announced for a release on the new High Definition format, Blu ray, on June 3, 2008. No other details are known at this point, except that the running time is being advertised as 179 mins, which would indicate that it is the general theatrical release version and not the longer Roadshow version. The previous two McQueen films to hit Blu ray, Bullitt and The Getaway, were jam packed with every extra feature that the standard DVD's provided, with The Getaway even featuring the alternative Jerry Fielding soundtrack (which was not on any DVD release). But at this point it is unknown what, if any, extra features the Blu ray version of The Sand Pebbles will have. It should also be noted that The Sand Pebbles was recently released on a Deluxe 2 Disk Special Edition DVD which featured both the general theatrical release version and the Roadshow version, as well as a wealth of extra features.
UPDATE: It has been confirmed that the Blu ray release has all the same extra features as the Deluxe edition, EXCEPT that it doesn't include the "Roadshow" version of the film. It does, however, include all the unique Roadshow version scenes as a separate "extra feature."
Blu ray is a next generation home video format which has much higher video resolution than DVD, and requires a special Blu ray player and a Hi Definition television or projector to be viewed correctly.
