In an auction held on August 16th at the Monterey Jet Center in California Steve McQueen’s 1963 Ferrari Lusso sold
to an anonymous phone bidder for US 2.31 million dollars, nearly double the pre-auction estimate.
An eye witness reports: “Bidding started at 600K US, hit a million almost immediately, and really didn’t slow until
about 1.8 million. It was more deliberate from there, but the crowd went nuts when it hit 2 million.”
US 2.1 million was the hammer price, with the 10% bidders premium bringing the total to US 2.31 million.
The seller, Michael Regalia, who bought the car in 1997 and had it restored to its original condition, when
asked how much he originally paid for the vehicle, replied, “A new Lexus would cost more than what I paid.”
